Frame size

Twice the size of A4 — a good wall print in the UK, Europe and Australia. A3 is a 1:√2 shape, so a typical phone photo (3:4) loses about 6% from the sides. It's larger than Letter or A4 paper, so print it at a photo shop or online print service.

How many pixels is an A3 photo?

Pixels per inch decide how sharp a print looks. Here's what an A3 print needs (portrait; swap the numbers for landscape). Pixels = inches × DPI.

Which frames and mats fit an A3 print?

Fits an A3 frame (29.7 × 42 cm), or a 40 × 50 cm frame with an A3 mount.

Mat openings are usually about ¼ in (6 mm) smaller than the print on each side, so the edges tuck behind the mat — keep faces and words away from the very edge. The tool shows that strip as a dashed line.

Frequently asked questions about A3 prints

Most phone photos are 3:4, so about 6% is trimmed from the sides to fill an A3 frame. Drag the photo to choose what stays, or pick "Fit whole photo" to keep everything and add a border instead.

Can I print A3 at home?

A3 is bigger than letter or A4 paper can print at actual size (home printers leave a thin edge). Download the photo file and print it at a photo shop or online print service — they all take JPGs.

Is the free download full quality?

The free file is 2,546 × 3,600 pixels (217 DPI) at A3 — a good print, a little softer up close than 300 DPI. The tool always tells you the DPI of the file you're about to download, and whether your photo has more detail than that.

What is A3 in centimetres and millimetres?

A3 is 29.7 × 42 cm (297 × 420 mm), or 11.7 × 16.5 in. Frames are sold by exact size, so match the frame's label rather than a near metric equivalent.
