What sizes are 4:5?
Every size below has the same shape, so one file at 16 × 20 in (4800 × 6000 px) prints correctly at all of them. Pixel dimensions are inches × 300.
| Size (in) | Size (cm) | Pixels @ 300 DPI | Pixels @ 150 DPI | Frames |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 × 5 in | 10.2 × 12.7 cm | 1200 × 1500 | 600 × 750 | Mini frames |
| 8 × 10 in 8x10 photo size | 20.3 × 25.4 cm | 2400 × 3000 | 1200 × 1500 | Standard frames · 11 × 14 matted |
| 16 × 20 in 16x20 photo size | 40.6 × 50.8 cm | 4800 × 6000 | 2400 × 3000 | Large wall · 40 × 50 cm |
What is the 4:5 ratio used for?
Anything meant for an 8 × 10 frame: quotes, botanical prints, kids' room art. Because 8 × 10 is so common, 4:5 is often the first size a buyer tries — make sure it looks finished, not cropped.
Which frames fit a 4:5 print?
8 × 10 frames are sold everywhere, frequently with an 11 × 14 outer size and 8 × 10 mat opening. 16 × 20 is the large-wall step. 40 × 50 cm frames are the metric equivalent.
How much is cropped when you convert art to 4:5?
From 2:3 art you lose about 17% of the height — the biggest crop in the standard pack. Check that titles and signatures near the top or bottom survive.
In FrameReady, drag the photo to choose what's in the 4:5 frame (or use the arrow buttons), or switch that ratio to "Fit + pad" to keep the whole image.
What resolution do you need for a 16 × 20 in print?
To be print-ready at 16 × 20 in without upscaling, your source needs at least 4800 × 6000 px after cropping to 4:5. The absolute floor (150 DPI) is 2400 × 3000 px. More on this in DPI explained. Below that, drop to the next size down rather than ship a soft file.
Frequently asked questions about the 4:5 ratio
What is 8 × 10 in pixels at 300 DPI?
2400 × 3000 px. 16 × 20 is 4800 × 6000 px.
Is 16 × 20 the same ratio as 8 × 10?
Yes — both are 4:5, so one file covers both.
Why does my 4:5 file look cropped compared to the original?
If the original was 2:3, about 17% of its height is removed to reach 4:5. Reposition the crop or use fit + pad.
