Add your photo, choose what stays in the frame, and download an A5 file or a page to print at home. An A5 print needs 1,748 × 2,480 pixels at 300 DPI.

Frame size

Half of A4 — cards, small prints and desk frames. A5 is a 1:√2 shape, so a typical phone photo (3:4) loses about 6% from the sides. It prints at actual size at home, one per US Letter sheet or one per A4 sheet.

How many pixels is an A5 photo?

Pixels per inch decide how sharp a print looks. Here's what an A5 print needs (portrait; swap the numbers for landscape). Pixels = inches × DPI.

A5 print in pixels at 300, 240, 150 and 72 DPI
DPIPixelsMegapixelsHow it looks
3001,748 × 2,4804.3Sharp, even up close
2401,398 × 1,9842.8Good — a little softer up close
150874 × 1,2401.1Lowest we'd go — fine from across the room
72420 × 5950.2Screen only — too low to print

Will a phone photo fit an A5 frame?

A5 is a 1:√2 shape. Here's roughly how much is trimmed when a photo fills the frame (turned the same way as the frame). Prefer to keep everything? Choose Fit whole photo and add a border instead.

How much of common photo shapes is cropped in an A5 frame
Your photoIn an A5 frame
Phone photo (3:4)Trims about 6% from the sides
Camera photo (2:3)Trims about 5% from the top and bottom
Screenshot or video still (9:16)Trims about 20% from the top and bottom
Square photo (1:1)Trims about 30% from the sides

Which frames and mats fit an A5 print?

Fits an A5 frame (14.8 × 21 cm), or an A4 frame with an A5 mount (passe-partout).

Mat openings are usually about ¼ in (6 mm) smaller than the print on each side, so the edges tuck behind the mat — keep faces and words away from the very edge. The tool shows that strip as a dashed line.

Frequently asked questions about A5 prints

What size should a photo be for an A5 frame?

For a print that's sharp even up close, 1,748 × 2,480 pixels — that's 300 DPI. At 1,398 × 1,984 (240 DPI) it's still a good print, a little softer up close, and 874 × 1,240 (150 DPI) is the lowest we'd go — fine from across the room. FrameReady makes the file at the right size for you.

Will my phone photo fit an A5 frame?

Most phone photos are 3:4, so about 6% is trimmed from the sides to fill an A5 frame. Drag the photo to choose what stays, or pick "Fit whole photo" to keep everything and add a border instead.

Can I print A5 at home?

Yes. Download the print-at-home page: your photo is placed at exactly A5 (14.8 × 21 cm) on Letter and A4 paper, with cut marks and a bar you can measure to check the size. Print at 100% (“Actual size”), not “Fit to page”.

Is it really free and private?

Yes. Your photo never leaves your device — everything happens in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, there's no sign-up and no watermark.

Is A5 half of A4?

Yes: A5 (14.8 × 21 cm) is exactly half an A4 sheet. Because home printers leave a thin unprinted edge, only one A5 photo fits on an A4 page at exact size — print one per sheet and trim along the cut marks.

What is A5 in centimetres and millimetres?

A5 is 14.8 × 21 cm (148 × 210 mm), or 5.8 × 8.3 in. Frames are sold by exact size, so match the frame's label rather than a near metric equivalent.
